On Oct. 23, 2023, the Bengal Beat interviewed Vet Science teacher, Alex McCarrell. The Vet Science class doesn’t just involve animals, it’s a place to learn how to give back to the community and have empathy for others. Before McCarrell was offered the job at Lucy Beckham High School, she taught science to many students in Greenville, SC. She is currently a Vet Tech, if she could be anyone in the world it would be a singer on Broadway. Some of her favorite things to do outside of teaching her students are, cooking, reading, concerts, and of course, attending Broadway shows. Herself, and others, know she is very driven and will work hard to get something done. McCarrell truly wants to change the world, that’s why she is a teacher and working to successfully run an animal rescue at our high school! McCarrell has come a long way, but it hasn’t always been easy. If she had the choice, she would have gone to college to become a Veterinarian, but by the time she found out how to do that, it was already too late. It was never her initial plan to move away and become a Vet Science teacher at a high school. She always thought that she would stay in her hometown with her family and friends. Overall, Mrs. McCarrell’s goal is to save as many animals as possible and to teach her students to always strive for their dreams.
