Throughout Lucy Beckham, students debate whether or not they should have CREW twice a week. The idea of CREW is defined on the Lucy Beckham website as “Students are part of a family that redefines what it means to be a learning community that truly supports and challenges one another.” As CREW has been implemented, the usefulness of this half-hour has been called into question. The Bengal Beat sent out a survey and the results showed an immense majority leaning towards switching to less CREW periods. There are many reasons why students believe CREW should be moved to once or twice a month. The creation of this period was to connect students and build a community however the results of this survey portray different outcomes. One student expressed that they feel CREW is a “waste of time.” This same concept is expressed by another student as they feel, “We should have CREW as often as necessary…if the administration has important information to get across to all students we should go to CREW instead of a focus period.” The administration should contemplate the voices of students when creating next year’s schedule and consider adapting the CREW period as necessary.
