Lucy Beckham has tons of extraordinary students, but have you ever met Jolie Trudeau? Trudeau is a senior at Lucy Beckham and a varsity volleyball captain, something she earned through hard work and determination. She began playing volleyball in the fourth grade, stating that, “My mom just put me into it one day, but once I began to grow, gain more skills and experience I knew it was the sport for me.” Trudeau asserts that volleyball has helped a lot with her confidence throughout the years. By playing in large crowds and learning how to work with others, she has not only become a much better player on the court, but has also learned how to overcome many obstacles in her personal life. Trudeau tells TheBengalBeat that, “Knowing that I am able to do the things that I have done in volleyball ….makes me feel as if I can defeat anything that gets in my way.”
This season, Trudeau has helped Lucy Beckham Girls Volleyball team become 2nd in the state and has contributed to a number of the team’s wins. Trudeau claims that the key to success is to only worry about what you can control, and try not to worry about what you can’t. She will be attending Flagler College in the fall and will be continuing on her volleyball journey.
Come out and cheer on Trudeau and her teammates at one of their upcoming matches. They have a tournament at Wando High School on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 8 a.m. and a varsity match at Beckham on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
