Name of the Game
October 28, 2022
On October 16th, Beckham’s Men’s Volleyball team reigned victorious in their State Championship game. Beckham’s first official Men’s Volleyball team represented themselves as united, hardworking, and harmonious throughout their season. One player, Rett White, dives into what volleyball means to him…
Do you mentally prepare yourself before games? And if so, what do you do?
Usually locked in by a lot of music, long stretches before the game, the bus rides there I am really locked in. I take some naps on the way there too, but that’s about it.
What actually inspired you to play volleyball?
I played in 8th grade, but our season was short, and I haven’t played since then, but I heard that they were making a real team this year so I decided to get back into it and have some fun.
Could you describe your emotions before and after that State Game?
This was a team we had never played before, so I did not know what to expect, and how they were going to be. They didn’t have any film on them either. I was pretty nervous. This was the State Championship, so there were a lot of people there. But, after the whole team started getting going and everything was going good. After the game we all had a lot of fun, we won the game, so everyone was really pumped up. So it was good.
Were there any words from your Coach, Marquis, which have impacted you and/or your team?
There were no specific words that really got to me, but a lot of things he said were very inspiring. He really put the team together well, and he was a great coach throughout the season.
Besides ending on a high note, the Men’s Volleyball team proved to have had a great season overall. Coach Marquis presents himself as a firm and strong leader, with high expectations for the team’s accomplishments. Beckham hopes to see future wins for the next season!
