It is the time of  year when the weather starts getting colder and we start to watch all of our favorite scary movies again. Thats right it is time for Halloween. Halloween is nearing towards the end of this month and everyone is starting to get prepared. Stores are stalking up on the best costumes and on all the best candies, as well as the best decorations to make sure it is a perfect night. Halloween has something to offer for everyone which is what makes it such a good holiday. For the little kids it offers a time to dress up and be afraid of the ghosts that lurk in the shadows. For high schoolers it is a time to get paid if you work at popular places like fright night. And for adults it is a time to eat all your kids’ candy well while they are sleeping.

Many famous movies are based on the idea of Halloween. All the classic horror movies we love like Scream, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th are all based on Halloween. The scariest Halloween movie is the 1973 classic the Exorcist but that one is just make believe. The Exorsist made 441.3 million dollars in the box office and became a quick favoirte of everyone. A scary movie that is based on a real life event is the 2013 movie the Conjuring. The characters Ed and Lorraine Warren were real paranormal investigators, who wrote about supernatural events at a farm house in Rhode Island which then made up the makings of the Conjuring. There are all of these famous Halloween movies and stories that we think of when we think of Halloween but where does Halloween come from.

The concept of Halloween came from the ancient celtic festival Samhain, a religious celebration that welcomes the harvest at the end of the summer. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to scare off ghosts. This concept has now been modernized and has turned into what we know as the scariest day of the year.
