Softball is a similar sport to baseball and is played on a similar field. This game has been around since 1887, and millions of people play it all over the world. However, this game might be popular from your point of view, but compared to other sports, there are problems. Interviewee Makenzie Mahaffey says, “If you are good enough to go pro, you cannot make a career out of it.” MLB players, however, make anywhere from 4 million to 50 million dollars a season. Professional softball players, on the other hand, make around 40,000 dollars a year if they are one of the top-ranking players. The difference in numbers is a clear example of how softball is a group that goes unrecognized for being such a unique sport. Mahaffey states, “I wish more people knew how great this sport is and how enjoyable it is.” The number of people attending softball games to baseball games is almost laughable. Baseball has another stand-full rather than our one stand-half-full crowd. Softball goes unnoticed and often gets ridiculed for playing, as player Georgia Davis says, “When I tell someone I play softball, they immediately compare how easy it is to baseball.” This point proves that players get put down for the smaller field, and the pitching is different from other sports. Softball is a difficult sport just like baseball is, and people are unable to see that.
